Finally: Harry Potter confirmed as TV series

The dreams of every wizard have come true overnight: reliable Hollywood sources have confirmed that a Harry Potter TV series is in the works! Even the release date is known: end of 2021 will be the day; exactly 100 years after Roderick Plumpton caught the Golden Snitch in less than 3 and ½ seconds, faster than anyone else in the history of Quidditch!

18 epsiodes, director already known

Warner Bros. Entertainment – who else of course – will produce the series. But where exactly the new Harry Potter adventure will be shown is still unknown. But that’s a good thing, because what would J. K. Rowling’s wizarding world be without a few secrets? So, after the Chamber of Secrets we will get the Streaming platform of Secrets!

One important thing is already known: All 18 episodes (!) will be directed by no one less than M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, 1999). With his series Wayward Pines (2015-2016) and Servant (since 2019), the original Oscar-nominated filmmaker has already more than proven that he has the power and craft. His fantasy film Lady in the Water (2006) is known in critical circles as a true masterpiece and his action-adventure fantasy film The Last Airbender (2010) is considered one of the best fantasy films of all time.

According to some sources Shyamalan said in the course of the announcement: “My Harry Potter series will be just as good as my cinematic adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender! It was loved by people all over the world!” Expectations are high!

The irony of the story: Shyamalan has allegedly already been offered three times to direct a Harry Potter movie (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (on Spielberg’s recommendation), Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (but he declined in favour of his masterpiece The Village) and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire).

In an interview 2008 he said: “I’ve always toyed with doing a Harry Potter. I’ve been offered all these fantasy movies and struggled over the decision of whether to do them or not. I really like that format of a movie. I think I could do an interesting version of one of those.” Apparently now is the right time for him! Parvati and Padma Patil soon aren’t the only Indians in the Harry Potter universe anymore… And is it a coincidence that just in the year of Shyamalan’s birth 1970 the First Wizarding War against Lord Voldemort and his followers the Death Eaters had officially begun? We do not think so…

Many questions still open

Besides studio and director, not much is known about the other heads behind the project. It can be assumed that David Heyman will be again on board. It wouldn’t be expected otherwise from the producer of all Harry Potter movies! And a rumor even suggests that Peter Jackson (who actually comes from Harry Potter’s arch-enemy fantasy saga Lord of the Rings) could be another producer. That would be pure madness!

But there is silence about the actors. Will any of them return from the movies? Unfortunately, we don’t know… What would all those young wizards out there give to see the beloved trio of Daniel, Rupert and Emma on screen again!? This time of course in the parental role.

What we also do not know exactly: When will the series take place? And is Hogwarts the only place for the series? Because according to some sources (to be treated with caution), the series might not only take place at Hogwarts. The story is also said to be set at the Beauxbatons Academy of Magic and the Durmstrang Institute. Elegant, pretty French girls and male, testosterone-driven Russians send their regards! That would be a twist!

We will see what awaits us at the end of 2021! Anyway, this news has overwhelmed us, the tension is rising!

What about you? Tell us in the comments!

PS : For all the people who thought this article is true, I´m sorry. Happy April Fool’s day prank!
